NYU welcomes applications for = admission=20 from international applicants. If you are not a U.S. citizen or lawful = permanent=20 resident, you must provide the information requested in the = "Other=20 Citizenship" portion of the application for admission - even if = you=20 have an application for permanent residency or citizenship in progress. = Also,=20 please be certain to use your legal name exactly as it appears on your = passport=20 on all NYU applications and related documents and correspondence.
Because of the very limited amount of financial aid available for=20 international students, our general expectation is that international = students=20 must be able to provide the entire cost of their education through their = own=20 resources. As a result, requests for application fee waivers will not be = accepted for international students.
Because of the substantial delays we continue to experience in = sending and=20 receiving documents through the mail to addresses outside the United = States, all=20 students who reside outside the United States are strongly encouraged to = apply online by clicking = here.=20
Documents
If your secondary education culminates in a maturity certificate = examination,=20 you must submit an official copy of the grades you received in each = subject of=20 your examination. If you are preparing for these examinations, you must = submit=20 predicted scores.
Click=20 here (.pdf) for a list of required international credentials by = country.
All documents submitted for review must be official; that is, they = must be=20 either originals or copies certified by authorized persons. (A = "certified" copy=20 is one that bears either an original signature of the registrar or other = designated school official or an original impression of the = institution's seal.)=20 Uncertified copies are not acceptable. If these official documents are = in a=20 foreign language, they must be accompanied by an official English = translation=20 from an accredited translation agency.
NYU cannot assume responsibility for the return of any documents you = provide=20 in support of your application for admission. You should not submit = diplomas or=20 original single copies of records that cannot be replaced.
Standardized Tests
All applicants are required to submit official score reports as = follows:
For more information on standardized test requirements, click=20 here
Note: If you are in a location where the ACT Writing = Examination is not available, you must choose one of the other = standardized test=20 score options.=20
If your native language is not English, and if your primary language = of=20 instruction has not been English, you should also take the TOEFL (Test = of=20 English as a Foreign Language) to ascertain your English language = proficiency.=20 Information about the test may be secured by visiting the TOEFL Web site = http://www.ets.org/toefl.
In place of the TOEFL, you may submit scores from IELTS, the = International=20 English Language Testing System. Complete information on IELTS is = available on=20 their Web site at http://www.ielts.org/.
If you are in the United States and in the New York area, you may = arrange to=20 take the English proficiency test of the American Language Institute = (New York=20 University) located at 48 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003-7154. = (Telephone=20 (212)998-7040). Find out more by visiting the ALI Web = site.
All students will be further tested upon arrival at the University. = If your=20 ability to speak and write in English is inadequate, you will not be = allowed to=20 register for academic study and will have to register for noncredit = English=20 courses that will entail additional expense and extend the time normally = required to complete your degree.
Certification of Finances
All non-U.S. Citizens and non-U.S. permanent residents must submit=20 appropriate evidence of their ability to finance their education. = Certificates=20 for student visas (Form I-20) or exchange visitor visas (Form DS-2019) = will be=20 issued only if you are offered admission AND pay the appropriate=20 deposits. It is not necessary for you to submit financial = documents=20 with your application.
If you are currently in the United States, you must submit a copy of = your=20 I-94 card. Please note that students holding F-1 or J-1 student visas = are=20 generally not allowed to work in the United States to earn money toward = their=20 education and are required to pursue a full-time course load each = semester.
If your studies are being financed by means of your own savings, = parental=20 support, outside private or government scholarships, or any combination = of=20 these, you must arrange to send official letters or similar certificates = as=20 proof of such support, together with a New York University Application = for=20 Certificate of Eligibility (AFCOE), which is available to students only=20 after offered admission. Please be certain to include your name = and date=20 of birth on each document you submit.
